About the Expert Speaker:
Jamie Pride, Chief Entrepreneur in Residence, 麻豆官网首页入口 Launch Pad
Jamie has had a 27-year career working across both the corporate and entrepreneurial domains. His executive career has included roles as the CEO of , a Partner at Deloitte Digital and a Partner in Korn Ferry鈥檚 organisational strategy practice. He has also worked globally for , Red Hat software & Cisco Systems.
His entrepreneurial career has included the founding and funding of 6 startups, completed an IPO on the Australian Stock Exchange and raised more than $200mil in private and public markets as a venture capitalist. Jamie sold his first startup to a division of IBM and has also had two other startup exits.
Jamie is the author of Unicorn Tears: Why Startups Fail & How to Avoid It - published globally by Wiley in 2018. Mr Pride holds a Master of Management in Strategic Behaviour from Macquarie University.

Professor Jed Esty on 'Decline Culture: Humanities Work after the American Century'
The aim of The Future of Decline: Anglo-American Culture at its Limits was to cut through media blather and incoherent thinking about American decline. Readers and voters are often told that American power is somehow evergreen yet already played out. It’s neither. Readers are told that when America loses its position as “sole superpower” it will lose its identity. It won’t. We have been a dominant power becoming a second-place nation for fifty years. By 2030 China or India will have the largest economy. This is neither a national nor a global catastrophe. Nor can it be evaded by policy or grit. Becoming #2 is the way of history, almost a law of capitalist motion. The question is how to reimagine the narrative of American destiny to avoid the seductions of lost national greatness. How to avoid the British trap—what Paul Gilroy calls “postcolonial melancholy,” that is, the long afterlife of superpower nostalgia?
In this seminar, Professor Esty will survey reactions to his book, and consider any implications its arguments may have for how Australia manages its own place in the world, as well as explore the unfinished intellectual business of figuring out the role of literature and humanities work within a world of declining US hegemony.

How can we understand the resurgence of masculinism in Australia and elsewhere? How can we challenge antifeminism and the increase in misogyny?

How can we understand the resurgence of masculinism in Australia and elsewhere? How can we challenge antifeminism and the increase in misogyny?
Lucy Nicholas will discuss the changes in contemporary masculinity and the worrying public resurgence of reactionary misogyny, especially online, and how we can use academic ideas to make sense of them. They will consider the emotional and ideological drivers of these ideas, some of the impacts they have, and how they may be challenged.
With a diverse academic background, Dr Nicholas received their PhD from the University of Edinburgh before embarking on a career that has taken them from the University of Portsmouth to their current position in Australia. Throughout their journey, they have demonstrated a passion for teaching, covering a wide range of subjects including sociology, social and political theory, gender and sexualities, and academic skills.
Dr Nicholas is the author of two influential books and their first book, “Queer Post-Gender Ethics,” published by Palgrave McMillan in 2014, explores the intersections of gender, sexuality, and ethics. Their second book, “The Persistence of Global Masculinism,” co-authored with Chris Agius, was published in 2018, shedding light on the complex dynamics of masculinity in a global context.
Lucy is currently working on two streams of research: one on sexuality and gender diversity, and one on men, masculinity, and violence prevention. With their expertise and commitment to advancing knowledge in gender and sexuality studies, Dr Lucy Nicholas continues to make significant contributions to academia and beyond.

The symposium will showcase the development and achievements in Australian traditional medicine, discuss the current issues and foster collaborations.
You are invited to the inaugural National Symposium on Australian Traditional Medicine hosted by NICM HRI 麻豆官网首页入口 in collaboration with Australian National University. The symposium will gather First Peoples of Australia, policy makers, regulators, academics and researchers aiming to showcase the development and achievements in Australian traditional medicine, discuss the current issues and challenges, and foster strong partnerships and collaborations.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are the Traditional Owners of Country now known as Australia. Indigenous Peoples of this continent are a diverse people, making up over 250 different language groups, each with their own unique cultures, languages and practices. Accordingly, the medicines used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are unique and recognised as the oldest continuing Indigenous culture in the world, holding significant Indigenous values in biodiversity and landscapes across Country.
Respectfully, no one term has been agreed upon by Indigenous Peoples themselves and their respective language groups. The focus of the National Symposium will defer to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander traditional medicines, so we respectfully use the term “Australian Traditional Medicine” to represent these medicines as a whole. We acknowledge that the following terms are also used, along with many others: Indigenous Traditional Medicines, First Nations Traditional Medicines, Bush Medicines, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traditional Medicines, Indigenous Cultural Medicines and Aboriginal Cultural Medicines.
Theme: Preclinical and clinical research; IP, ICIP, Indigenous governance and ethics; regulation and commercialisation pathways.
